According to the latest news, Trump is giving his victory speech. However, the official results of the vote may take a few days to be announced. Each state in the country has specific rules on voting procedures. The method of counting votes is also different.

Voting is done through three methods. Voting is done through handmarked paper ballots, Ballot Marking Devices or BMD and Direct Recording Electronic or DRE. Among them, the most common paper ballots are used about 70 percent. More than 25 percent of voters use computer controlled voting system - BMD.

There is also some variation in the way votes are counted across the country. The votes cast on polling day are counted first. Then the advance and postal votes are counted. Finally, the immigrant and military votes are counted. Basically, the process of counting votes received by mail from different states of the United States from inside and outside the country takes a long time.
